Importance of ISO 14001:2015 standard

To know about the importance of ISO 14001:2015 standard we should know about the environment and issues associated with the environment as the standard deals with the environmental management system.

What is the environment?

The environment can be defined as the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal lives or operates. Basically, it means that human beings and animals live in the environment.

#Issues associated with the Environment?

1. Population Increase

The population increases due to the increase in the birth rate and the decrease in the death rate. From the records, it is analyzed that the population is increasing at a rate around 1.08 percent per year and it should be decreased.

2. Ecosystem Destruction

The Ecosystem Destruction is mostly happening due to the huge engineering projects, Depletion of natural resources by consuming more energy, food for expanding populations, etc. Human beings are creating their shelters by destructing the forests. The cutting of the plants and trees results in the erosion of the upland regions. We are also using a lot of energy using natural resources such as petrol, diesel, and coal.

3. Air Pollution

Air pollution is mostly happened due to the emission of gases from the industries and from the vehicles. It creates a bad impact on the environment and pollutes the natural air. It results in a low amount of oxygen and a high amount of other harmful gases in the air. It also increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the air which is harmful to the environment and human beings. Due to air pollution, acid rain is caused in the form of sulfuric acid.

6. Ozone depletion

As we all know that the ozone layer is a layer that stops the harmful and ultraviolet rays to come on the earth's surface. If the ozone layer depletes, then the harmful rays and ultraviolet rays will come on the earth's surface and due to that, the temperature of the earth can increase. These harmful rays come from the sun are harmful to human beings and animals and can cause skin diseases. Due to the emission of gases from the industries and air coolers, the ozone layer is depleting and wholes are forming on the layer day by day.

7. Global Warming

As mentioned above due to the emission of gases and depletion of the ozone layer, the temperature of the earth is increasing and if it increases then it can be dangerous for our next generation.

Due to some of the historical backgrounds such as Bhopal Gas Tragedy, Nuclear Power plant disaster in Russia, Oil slippage in seas and many more, the peoples are trying to work on the environmental management system.

#Importance of ISO 14001:2015 standard

The issues mentioned above raise the requirements for the need for the Environmental Management System. The foreign countries and India are also working on the management of the environment in order to save the environment. Hence the ISO 14001:2015 is introduced by the ISO organization that focuses on the management of the environment to save nature earth. Hence it is important to apply for ISO certification in India and all over the world. This social responsibility should be taken by the people to save the earth.
